Allison is a data scientist, professional educator, and Developer Marketing Manager with Observable’s Developer Relations team, where she creates and shares educational content to help data teams build interactive visualizations, data apps, and dashboards. From 2012 - 2022, Allison developed and led data science curricula at UC Santa Barbara. She actively works to contribute to open resources, including through open source software (e.g. the palmerpenguins data package), books, tutorials, and documentation. She also shares open creative contributions for data science, having worked as an Artist-in-Residence at RStudio (2019 - 2020) and the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (2018 - 2019). She earned her PhD in nanotoxicology from the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management in 2012.
